Hero of the day - The unexpected one

The what seemed nonchalant guy became the hero of the day.

Andre a 20 year-old student who is unlike any of his peers being out with friends having fun, is a quiet child. His definition of fun is listening to his favourite playlist and getting warp into it. His classmates find him eccentric and nonchalant. Well, he is to a certain extent nonchalant. It doesn’t bother him.
“That’s all for today’s lesson. Class dismissed.” Said the lecturer in a loud voice. The students pack their stuffs up hurriedly. Chatter and laughter are filling up the whole class, some complaining about the amount of workload and some planning about where to head to later. As usual, Andre packed his stuffs in his own pace.

Andre placed his headphones to his ears. His surroundings became less noisy. A favourite tune starts to fill up as Andre played his playlist, eliminating the chattering of his classmates. Then, he’s being warped into his comfort zone.

His classmates all left in groups. None of them bid him goodbye. He’s left alone in class. Andre finished packing his stuffs and starts to head home.

It’s like any other day. Andre will walk alone to the station to take the train home.

Among the chattering of the crowd, the screeching of the track and the announcement of the train, Andre is in his own world with the beats sounding in the manner of comforting him. He is still a long way home.
Suddenly, the train stopped abruptly with a huge jerk. Some of the commuters lost their footing and fell. The commuters are shocked and are wondering what happened. They are all murmuring among themselves. The train didn’t resume moving. There’s no announcement about the matter. Andre is shocked by the matter but quickly brushed it away to return to his music.

The commuters start to get impatient. Most of them are giving the irritated face. The train itself is getting stuffy. Discomfort is getting to the commuters. Andre is feeling it too but he tries to contain it.
Just then, Andre felt a weight leaning against his back. He didn’t care about it at first but the weight just get heavier. He turned around to see what the weight is. To his surprise it’s a lady with a pale face. She is panting and weak. Andre quickly removed his headphones and check on the lady.

“It’s an asthma attack. This is bad, gotta give her some air to stabilize her condition.” Andre thought to himself. “What can I do? It’s too crowded and the train doesn’t seem to be moving anytime soon. Think, Andre think.”

Andre supported the lady to the nearest seat and usher the other passenger to give up the seat in order to rest her. Andre hurried over to the fire extinguisher, pulled it out of the compartment and threw it at the glass of the train door.

The fire extinguisher hit the glass with a loud crash sending the glass shards flying. Everyone was stunned by his act. Andre returned to the lady and checked her condition. The air around became less stuffy as the carriage got more ventilated due to the hole in the train door. The lady breathing calmed a little.

“Good, she’s stabilizing.”

The train starts moving again. More murmurs came from the commuters.
As soon as the train reached the next station, commuters all rushed out. The lady who’s feeling better already was looking for Andre to thank him for his deed. He was nowhere to be found.

Andre has already taken an alternative to get back home. He didn’t want to receive any gratitude from the lady. To him, it was just an act that was supposed to be done.

Melodious beats continue to flow into his ear as he return to his own world.
