It’s Sunday afternoon as I laze on my couch. The week has been hectic and finally there’s some time to rest as its exercise interval. Meanwhile, Raquel jumped onto the couch and lay beside me.
Raquel is my pet dog. She’s my baby. She entered my life on the valentines’ day of 2010. Yea, she’s a valentines’ pup and a special one too as the first day of Chinese New Year fell on that day. Though not a purebred, Raquel look totally like a Jack Russell. Her arrival brought joy to my family and I.
As I pet her, scenes of what we had before starting flashing through. We had actually been through so much. I recall myself always rushing home to find Raquel and play with her. She was so amusing then, tumbling around as she learned to walk and the scene where she slowly got to recognize her name being called. Such bliss the days were.
As she grew, hell started to break loose. She got wild as her teeth started to grow. She got the urge to chew. We understand that fact and bought her toys but that weren’t enough. Her urge was too great. Most of our furniture became the victim and worst of all, my shoes, MY PRECIOUS SHOES. My stuffs were targeted as well. That’s when I would flare up and shout at her causing her to go into hiding under tables. We decided to restrict her movement in the house and kept her in the kitchen.
It was really heart wrenching to hear as she cried and make lots of noise during the initial period but she soon adapted to it. Now, she will just wait for meals, ask for attention when anyone of us enter the kitchen and continue her chewing frenzy. She has become so fat in the process. LOL.
Though much damage was done to my house causing it to look like a battlefield, she still received much love from us. I do bring her out for walks now and then and it made me proud bringing her around. She’s so pretty. Her little habits and actions made her different from other dogs and thus I have this strong emphasis when talking about MY dog.
I realized I was smiling to myself when I came to from the drowning of the reminiscence. Raquel had fell asleep with her head lying on my lap. ‘Stupid girl.’ I said as I continue to laze in this lazy afternoon.
